As the sun set on Space Operations 2018 in Marseille, France, it was with a sense of pride that the South African delegates witnessed the SANSA CEO, Dr Val Munsami accept the SpaceOps flag for the coming two years. SpaceOps2018 saw about a thousand global space operations industry experts and leaders attend the week-long event that culminated with an inspiring presentation by Dr Munsami on the opportunities of doing business in space with Africa and the mandate of SANSA in leading this drive for the continent through his role as VP: Emerging countries on the International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
SANSA participated at the event with a modern exhibition and submitted a paper that was nominated for inclusion into the conference resources.
The team along with tourism representatives from City of Cape Town ensured warm South African hospitality was always on hand to delegates and an evening of wine and local snacks ensured delegates interested in attending the next conference, experienced a taste of what was in store. SANSA will host SpaceOps2020 which will be held in Africa for the first time in the history of the conference.
The conference will be at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Cape Town and the teams are ready to welcome the space community to South Africa to have sight of the local expertise and infrastructure we offer. The Organising Committee chair, Mr Tiaan Strydom, would like to acknowledge the support and contribution made by members of the SANSA Space Operations, Space Science and Space Programme divisions at SpaceOps2018.
