23 May SANSA and the Japan International Cooperation Agency conduct training in agricultural crop monitoring and crop yield estimation to Government officials.

SANSA in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are currently conducting a three-day training workshop on the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data in crop monitoring and crop yield estimation (maize). This hands-on training is taking place at the SANSA EO offices in the Innovation Hub and ends on Thursday, 25 May 2017.

The skills acquired during these three days will contribute in decision-making related to food security in the country.

The workshop is attended by officials from National and Provincial (Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) Departments of Agriculture, the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), as well as SANSA staff. This training forms part of SANSA’s contribution to capacity building within the public sector and the wider Earth observation community in South Africa.
